Poppet Valves
For
employment in directional control valves used in industry, the popular
choice is poppet valves. Although there are several different types of
valves, poppets are in a league of their own due to them having a movable
part, (the poppet). The moveable part is the part which allows a direct
flow of gas or liquid through the valve body.
The characteristics of a poppet valve is the movable part, (the poppet)
is controlled via a special mechanism inside called a stem. This is an
operation which allows movement and opening by an actuator, an actuator
has different aways in which it works, typically a pilot although sometimes
a solenoid, manual or mechanical operator is put in place.
The stem allows movement and pushes the moveable part of the valve (the
poppet) into a specially constructed two way valve which is amost always
open.
These valves are used for a number of reasons, including their strength and durability and ability to avoid typical contaminants which including scale and rust.They are also renowned for their design, they have large flow paths throughout the body of the valve which alows fast action and high flow throughout its body. Poppet valves are used in many industrial process from controlling the flow of rocket fuel to controlling the flow of milk.
